CDC Alerts Public to Infected Chicks and Ducklings

The CDC is looking into an outbreak of Salmonella Altona in conjunction with the USDA’s National Poultry Improvement Plan.  As of May 25, 2011, 25 individuals have been identified as being infected with the bacteria.  During the course of the CDC's analysis at a store in North Carolina, a chick was found to be contaminated with the bactera. 

This is a multi-state analysis and involves persons from the following states:  Indiana (1), Kentucky (3), Maryland (2), Minnesota (1), North Carolina (4), New York (1), Ohio (7), Pennsylva bnia (2), Tennessee (2), Virginia (1), and Vermont (1).  It is approximated that the illnesses began between February 25, 2011 and April 25, 2011.
