May 21, 2015: Market Food May Be Linked To Kenosha County Salmonella Outbreak

The Kenosha County Division of Health announced that it is currently investigating a Salmonella food poisoning outbreak. Although the source of the outbreak has not yet been identified, public health officials are focusing on food purchased over the weekend of May 9 to May 10, 2015, at the Supermecado Los Corrales, located at 33933 52nd Street, Kenosha, WI. While the investigation is ongoing, the meat and food preparation area of the Supermercado has been closed. The remainder of the store remains open. The Division of Health reports that its investigation began on May 15, 2015, after receiving positive Salmonella lab reports. Those sickened are being interviewed and laboratory testing is ongoing.

WISN 12 News/www.wisn.com reported that more 20 persons have been sickened, although culture confirmation of the cases is still pending.

Salmonella food poisoning is typically diagnosed by testing a stool sample for the presence of Salmonella bacteria.
