May 24, 2012: “Tempeh Starter Yeast” Recalled – Possible Salmonella Contamination

On May 22, 2012, IndonesianFoodMart.com recalled all Tempeh Starter Yeast packages because of the potential Salmonella, a foodborne pathogen, contamination. 

IndonesianFoodMart.com is based in Maryland and distributed Tempeh Starter Yeast nationwide and to Australia, Canada, Slovenia, New Zealand, Brunei, Darussalam, Poland and Croatia through direct mail orders.  The recalled yeast is packaged in clear plastic containers in 30gm, 50gm, 250 gm, and 1000 gm sizes.

According to the Federal Drug Administration, there have been several illnesses that maybe connected with this problem.
