Whole Foods Market Prepared Foods Recall Announcement – In connection with yesterday’s recall by Satur Farms, Whole Foods Market has issued a recall for various prepared foods products in eight states containing baby spinach and mesclun because of a potential contamination of Salmonella.
About Salmonella
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, arthritis, and death. The affected products, including salads, pizza, sandwiches and wraps, were sold at stores in Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. Affected prepared foods are labeled with a Whole Foods Market scale label.
